The Phoenix

1st July, St Mary's Church

Leo Hollis gives an illustrated talk about the building of St Paul's Cathederal, which celebrates its 300th anniversary this October, and the men who made modern London - John Evelyn, diarist gardener; Robert Hooke, scientist and architect; John Locke, philosopher and economist; Nicholas Barbon, property speculator; and most significantly of all, Sir Christopher Wren.

Against the backdrop of the Great Fire of London, the Great Plague and the English Civil Wars, Leo Hollis tells the remarkable story of how London reinvented itself into a modern city upon the remains of the past.
