The Beaminster Festival is delighted to welcome one of the world of opera's rising and brightest stars. Soprano, Eliana Pretorian, was born in Romania but after studying choreography and languages, she was awarded a full scholarship to the Royal College of Music in London.
She has been a student with the redoubtable Lillian Watson since 2005 and has been the recipient of many awards including the Sybil Tutton Award, the Concordia Foundation Berthel Prize Award, and the Georg Solti Academy Scholarship to enable her to study with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa.
Eliana's roles include Adele in Die Fledermaus directed by Paul Curran, Zerlina in Don Giovanni for British Youth Opera, Gianetta in Elisir d'Amore for Glyndebourne Touring Opera. She joined the National Opera Studio in September 2007. Her plans for this year include Papagena in The Magic Flute, the dew fairy in Glyndebourne Opera's production of Hansel and Gretel and Clorinda in La Cenerentola for Garsington Opera.
Eliana will be accompanied by the young Russian pianist, Sergey Rybin, who began studying the piano at the age of seven at a music school for gifted children in Novosibirsk and then the Moscow State University, subsequently graduating with distinction from the Royal Academy of Music in London. He too is winner of many prestigious awards.
The Programme will contain music by Donizetti, Britten, Poulenc, Mozart and Rimsky-Korsakov.
