Time Present and Time Past

3rd July, St Mary's Church

A talk by the Very Reverend David Shearlock on T.S. Eliot

The Dean Emeritus of Truro brings his and our attention to a towering presence of 20th century poetry, Thomas Stearns Eliot, with particular reference to Four Quartets.

We shall look briefly at his life and at his other major works, but the pinnacle of his poetry is reached in Four Quartets. A series of profound reflections on the four seasons and the four elements, whilst also examining the significance of place and the nature of time and eternity, one of the poems, East Coker, has special resonance for those of us who live near to that eponymous village.

Douglas and Lesley Cooper will join Dean Shearlock to share the readings.
