For more than 400 years the Copper Family has lived and worked in and around the village of Rottingdean, on the Sussex coast five miles east of Brighton. They have worked as shepherds, carters, publicans and farmworkers on the seaward hills of the South Downs. For at least 200 years, the Family has been celebrated as country singers, entertaining at sheep-shearing suppers, Harvest Homes and family parties throughout the South.
The late Bob Copper, the family patriarch, wrote three books including The Song for Every Season which is a classic document of the rural way of life. Preserving the rare southern harmony style of singing, the Coppers are still living on the Sussex cliff-tops and singing as enthusiastically as ever.
